Indian Politician’s ED Custody Extended in Tribal Welfare Scam

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in India has extended the custody of former Karnataka Minister B. Nagendra for another five days in connection with an alleged multi-crore tribal welfare development board scam. This comes after Nagendra was produced before a special court for MP/MLAs cases.

The ED is alleging that Nagendra is not cooperating with their investigation, while Nagendra’s counsel argues that he has already given a statement and should be sent to judicial custody. The ED claims they need more time to investigate the case, while Nagendra’s legal team fears he will be pressured in ED custody.

The ruling Congress party has accused the ED of trying to topple the state government under the guise of investigating the scam. They claim the ED is pressuring Nagendra to implicate Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar in the case.

The BJP has responded by criticizing the Congress for targeting the ED investigation.

This case continues to unfold, and it remains to be seen what further developments will arise.
