Craig Wright’s Legal Troubles Deepen: Perjury and Forgery Allegations

Australian computer scientist Craig Wright’s claims to be Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, have landed him in hot water with British prosecutors.

Following a recent ruling in the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) vs. Wright case, High Court Justice James Mellor has referred Wright’s alleged misconduct to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for consideration of charging him with perjury. Judge Mellor found that Wright had lied during the trial to bolster his claim of being Satoshi Nakamoto.

The judge ruled that Wright had repeatedly lied and forged documents in an attempt to prove his claim to be the creator of Bitcoin. This, according to Judge Mellor, constitutes “wholesale perjury and forgery” and merits criminal proceedings.

In a significant development, Wright has been ordered to cease all further legal proceedings related to the case. He is also prohibited from threatening any further legal action.

Consequences for Wright

  • Wright could face criminal charges for perjury and forgery.
  • He is barred from pursuing further legal proceedings related to the COPA case.
  • He must post a court notice on his website, Slack, and X (formerly Twitter) accounts for six months.

The referral to the CPS represents a major setback for Wright and could have far-reaching consequences for his claims and future legal actions.
