Gemini Co-founder Calls for Change in SEC Leadership
Tyler Winklevoss, co-founder of crypto exchange Gemini, has called for a change in leadership at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Winklevoss expressed his concerns about the SEC’s approach to regulating the crypto industry.
He stated that the industry should not tolerate another four years of the current SEC policies, which he believes have created a hostile environment for crypto companies in the US. “We need to see tangible change and a proof of commitment to treating our industry fairly and dealing with it in good faith going forward,” Winklevoss wrote.
Winklevoss’s comments come after the SEC has taken a more aggressive stance against crypto companies in recent years, filing lawsuits against major players like Binance, Coinbase, and Kraken. Critics have argued that the agency’s approach has been overly aggressive and has created uncertainty for the industry.
Winklevoss also revealed that he and his twin brother Cameron were disinvited from a crypto roundtable in Washington DC after publicly endorsing former President Donald Trump. The Winklevoss twins had previously contributed to Trump’s campaign, donating more than $1 million in Bitcoin.
While Winklevoss’s stance on the SEC has sparked conversation in the crypto community, it remains to be seen if his call for change will be heeded.
