Trump Speaks at Bitcoin 2024, Calls for US Crypto Supremacy
Former President Donald Trump made a surprise appearance at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday. In his keynote speech, Trump touted cryptocurrency as a key to American economic dominance, comparing it to the steel industry of a century ago. He emphasized a “America First” approach, urging the US to take a leading role in the crypto space.
Trump argued that if the US doesn’t embrace crypto, other countries, particularly China, will take the lead. “Let’s do it and do it right,” he told the crowd. Trump also mentioned other tech and business topics, including AI, energy production, and electric vehicles.
Trump claimed to be the first US president to speak at a bitcoin event. He emphasized that the spirit of crypto aligns with the spirit of American innovation. His goal, he said, is to make America the “crypto capital of the planet and the bitcoin superpower of the world.”
The speech was delayed, Trump explained, due to extra security measures taken by the Secret Service. Trump, who was recently the target of an attack at a rally in Pennsylvania, joked that he was happy to give the Secret Service all the time they needed.
