X’s Grok AI Chatbot: A Privacy Battle in Europe

The European Data Protection Commission (DPC) has dropped its investigation into X after the social media platform agreed to stop training its Grok AI chatbot on users’ data from the European Union. The DPC had alleged that X violated the Data Protection Act by training the chatbot on user data without consent.

X has agreed to permanently delete data collected from EU users between May 7 and August 1 from its AI model and will not collect additional data for training Grok.

  • The DPC’s action highlights the increasing focus on data privacy in the development of AI models.
  • While X has agreed to comply in Europe, the company has been vocal in its disagreement with the DPC’s demands.
  • Despite the setback in Europe, X is pushing forward with the development of Grok.

The company recently launched its Colossus supercomputer, which is designed to train AI models. The Colossus supercomputer is equipped with 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs and is expected to be doubled in capacity with the addition of 50,000 Nvidia H200 chips.

XAI, Elon Musk’s AI startup, believes the supercomputer will accelerate the development of Grok, making it a competitor to other leading AI models.
