Cryptocurrency News: Trump Talks Crypto at Nashville Conference

Former President Donald Trump gave a speech at a cryptocurrency conference in Nashville on Saturday, signaling a potential shift in his stance on the digital asset class. In 2021, Trump had labeled Bitcoin a “scam.” However, at the conference, he declared his intention to make the U.S. the “crypto capital of the world.”

Trump’s comments come amid a broader Republican effort to court crypto enthusiasts ahead of the November 5 election. He pledged to implement industry-friendly regulations if elected, contrasting his current position with China’s outright ban on cryptocurrency.

Trump also took the opportunity to criticize his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, calling her “evil,” “sick,” and “unhinged.” He claimed that her election would “destroy the country” and that the “American dream is dead” if she were to win.

This rhetoric was a departure from his brief call for unity following an assassination attempt on his life two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Harris has been fundraising for her campaign, taking in over $100 million in the 36 hours following Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the race. She has positioned herself as the “underdog” in the presidential race, contrasting her record as a prosecutor with Trump’s past as a convicted felon.

The upcoming election promises to be a fierce contest, with both candidates utilizing strong rhetoric and focusing on specific policies, including crypto regulation, in their efforts to win over voters.
