Trump’s Bitcoin Agenda at Bitcoin Conference 2024
At the Bitcoin Conference 2024 in Nashville, former President Donald Trump made some big promises to the crypto community. He pledged to commute Ross Ulbricht’s sentence if he wins a second term, making it a top priority from day one.
Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, has been imprisoned since 2013 and has expressed gratitude for Trump’s support. This move was well-received by conference attendees, as many have been advocating for Ulbricht’s release.
Trump also outlined a plan to make the US a leader in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. This includes:
- Firing SEC Chairman Gary Gensler within the first 100 days
- Launching Operation Chokepoint
- Opposing the introduction of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)
- Protecting individuals’ rights to self-custody of digital assets
- Creating a unified Bitcoin vault and a Strategic National Bitcoin Reserve
Trump’s vision for a Bitcoin-focused US has certainly captured the attention of the crypto community. Whether or not he can deliver on his promises remains to be seen.
